Medical school to host conference on U.N. goals

The School of Medicine is co-sponsoring an Oct. 7 conference in Fairchild Auditorium titled "Can the United Nations heal the world?" The event will discuss the U.N.'s millennium development goals for combating poverty, hunger, disease and environmental degradation. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The morning plenary session, "Improving health around the world: The millennium development goals and biomedical science," will include Jonathan Berek, MD, chair of obstetrics and gynecology; Yvonne Maldonado, MD, associate professor of pediatrics (infectious diseases); Gary Schoolnik, MD, associate professor of medicine (infectious diseases), and Paul Wise, MD, MPH, professor of pediatrics.

The deadline to pre-register is Sept. 29. The cost is $35 general/$15 students and includes a boxed lunch. Attendees can also register at the door the day of the event, but will not receive lunch.
