Last spring, the university introduced Community Partnership Day, a biennial event that aims to strengthen bonds between Stanford and the surrounding community through off-site volunteer service. So this spring, the festivities of Community Day return to the Farm, along with partnerships of a different sort. Stanford Events is now accepting applications for on-campus partners to participate in Community Day, when Stanford hosts faculty lectures, children's activities for families in the area and the grand Founders' Day celebration. A few of the on-campus partners in past years have been Stanford Athletics, the Cantor Arts Center and the Haas Center for Public Service. Those interested in having a booth at the event should contact ANNA WILSON at abeattie@stanford.edu. The deadline to apply is Nov. 4. Student groups have until Nov. 13 to apply for funding and can get a form online at http://communityday.stanford.edu. Community Day will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2007.

TIGER WOODS donated $100,000 to the university through his membership on the U.S. Ryder Cup team last month. The money will support the Golf: For Business and Life program, which was established by the PGA of America in 1999 and currently reaches more than 20,000 students at 59 universities nationwide. The program is designed to teach and improve the golf skills of college juniors, seniors and graduate students through instruction provided by PGA pros. Regardless of their chosen career, students are taught how they can use golf as a business tool as they enter the professional world. Woods, an alumnus, has donated a total of $380,000 to Stanford through the program. The 36th Ryder Cup was played Sept. 22-24 in County Kildare, Ireland, and this year's captain of the U.S. team, along with its 12 members, each designated $100,000 to universities of their choice in support of the college program.
