NIH leader to lecture on diversity in biomedicine
Faculty, students and administrators are invited to an Oct. 17 symposium to discuss the current state of women and minorities interested in careers in biomedicine.
The event will feature Vivian Pinn, MD, the first full-time director of the National Institutes of Health's Office of Research on Women's Health. Pinn is charged with ensuring that women's health issues and women are well-represented in the NIH's research efforts.
Pinn's talk, titled "Challenges for women to succeed and advance in biomedical careers," is sponsored by the medical school's Office of Diversity and Leadership.
Prior to her role at NIH, Pinn was professor and chair of pathology at Howard University. Previously, she held teaching appointments at Tufts University and Harvard Medical School. At Tufts she was assistant dean for student affairs and an advocate for minority students.
The lecture takes place at noon in the Clark Center auditorium. For more information, contact Barbara Miller at 725-8402 or at bemiller@stanford.edu.
