Thomas Kailath

THOMAS KAILATH, the Hitachi America Professor in the School of Engineering, Emeritus, was awarded a medal for his work in signal processing by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Kailath won the Jack S. Kilby Signal Processing Medal for his contribution to breakthroughs in communications, information theory, signal processing and semiconductor manufacturing. The award ceremony will take place in Minneapolis on June 24.

CAROLYN WONG, assistant professor of political science, received a faculty award at the seventh annual Stanford Asian American Awards ceremony May 4. Wong was nominated by her peers and students for her dedication and service to the Asian American community and for her mentoring, teaching and research. Wong's research examines the nature of contemporary racial-ethnic politics, and she teaches courses on immigration, race-ethnicity and Asian American participation in politics.
