Justice past and present
Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, top, and current Justice Anthony Kennedy spoke Friday at the Law School during the Law Review Symposium, which explored, among other subjects, the ways in which the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist left his mark on the court. All three are Stanford alumni. O’Connor, who earned her bachelor’s degree from Stanford in 1950 and her law degree from Stanford Law School in 1952, was the first woman appointed to the court. Kennedy earned a bachelor’s degree from Stanford in 1958. Rehnquist earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 1948 and his law degree in 1952—all from Stanford.
