Summer construction update 2006
June 2006 marks the ninth year that Facilities Operations staff have informed the Stanford community about campus summer construction projects.

Facilities Operations encourages faculty and staff to pass on the following information to visitors, vendors, truckers, caterers, etc., prior to their arrival on campus. Everyone involved in these construction projects is committed to working together to minimize inconvenience, frustration and delay. Projects managed by Facilities OperationsUTILITIES DIVISIONLaw School Steam Extension—White Plaza to Lane C (M-994): This project extends from the south side of White Plaza (adjacent to the Birdcage) east to the Law School, between the Braun Music Center and the post office. A new manhole will be installed that will be the source of steam for the Munger Graduate Student Housing Complex.

AstroTurf Field Electric Power Pedestal Installation (M-1171): This project creates an electric power source in the AstroTurf field area.

New 12KV Service for Stadium—Sam MacDonald Mall at Nelson Mall (U06402): This project creates the point where the new stadium will be connected to the campus 12KV system.

Central Plant Chiller Replacement Project (M-1046): This project replaces two chillers (3 and 4), which are past their useful life, with a single steam-driven, 4,000-ton centrifugal chiller, increasing the plant capacity by 2,000 tons.

Serra Street Ditch Regrading, Phase 1 (M-1161): This project resets the grade on the storm drainage ditch between the new culvert under Pampas Lane and the outfall at El Camino Real.

Campus Drive West Culvert Replacement (M-1163): This project replaces and increases the capacity of the storm drain culvert under Campus Drive West, adjacent to the Junipero Serra Boulevard intersection.

Roth/Lomita Drainage Improvements (M-1164): This project improves storm collection along the east side of Lomita Mall, between the Old Chemistry Building and Roth Way. Also included is a drain passing under Roth Way linking the above collection area to the wetland between Roth Way and Museum Way.

Street and Parking Lot Maintenance ProgramThe following projects will dig out and replace failed pavement, followed by application of a new slurry-seal surface and new striping as required. The second group requires the more significant treatments noted.

Boswell Basement—Dhabar Lab (2602): This project remodels a 1,000-square-foot basement space.

Boswell—Fish Facility (2471): This project adds both capacity and varied environments for research using fish in the School of Medicine.

End Station II & III—Buildout and Fit-Up (2738): This project converts a large indoor space into several floors of administrative space.

Roble Hall CIP Renovation (7255): Renovation and upgrade work continues after seismic strengthening. Improvements include life-safety systems, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, code compliance, electronic improvements and wireless access.

SEQ II—Environment and Energy Building (4764): This project, the first in the SEQ II series, will create a 166,000-square-foot (gross) building to house all programs related to environmental teaching and research that are currently housed in multiple buildings around campus. El Camino Real Fence—Galvez Street to Palm Drive (2759): This donor project will continue the signature steel fencing along El Camino Real to Palm Drive.

Golf Practice Center (M-1175): An area between the Searsville path and the golf course, between Fremont Road and Sand Hill Road, will be converted to a practice facility for the varsity golf team.

Munger Replacement Parking—Arguello at Stern Hall (4935): The area currently occupied by informal basketball courts will be converted to surge parking while Parking Structure 6 is under construction.

Band Shack Modular Removal (2442): This project removes the Band's temporary home. The Music Rehearsal Facility is now complete on the former De Guerre Courts.

Parking Structure 6 Under Wilbur Field (7375): This project adds 1,187 parking spaces under Wilbur Field.

Mayfield Avenue Reconfiguration (M-1135): This project makes necessary changes to accommodate the arrival of the three relocated buildings.

Campus Drive East—Road Relocation and Utilities (M-965): This project completes road re-alignment and utility extensions related to the Munger Housing project.

Grant Building—Second Floor Lab/Office Modifications (42098): This project involves the interior (Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development) remodeling of labs and offices located on the second floor of the Grant Building for the departments of Psychology, Urology and Medicine.

Hoover Tower Preservation and Digital Labs (2505): This project involves the interior remodeling of preservation labs (microfilm, audio, visual and archival materials) and offices located in the basement of Hoover Tower.

Hoover Tower First Floor ADA Restroom (2758): This is a project of the continuing ADA compliance program.

Lucas P173—MRI (2614): This project involves the interior remodeling of an existing magnet suite to install a new prototype 3T MRI. The project includes installation of magnetic and radio-frequency shielding around the perimeter of the suite.

Clark Center 7T MRI (2797): This project adds an MRI facility in the basement area.

CCSR Core Facilities Reconfiguration (2752): This project involves the interior remodeling of the core labs, located in the north-wing basement. Project includes new lab benches and areas for tissue cultures, a server room, microscopy and researcher offices.

Barnum Center (4891): This project provides seismic upgrading to the existing building while adding 2,300 square feet of space. The building is now assigned to the School of Education, to be used for school and community events. For more information, go to http://cpm.stanford.edu/Barnum/alert.html.

New Location for Two Moved Houses—Lane A at Nathan Abbott Way (M-1065): This project establishes two moved wooden buildings in their new location.

Durand House—CIP Upgrade (7356): This project provides a complete seismic and building system upgrade. This includes fire sprinklers and alarms, wireless computer service, internal and exterior access, and new finishes throughout.

Projects managed by the University Architect/Campus Planning and DesignBike Parking—Escondido Mall Behind Main Quad (M1132): This project provides much-needed bike parking immediately opposite the Quad arcade classrooms.

Palm Drive Entry at El Camino Real—Landscape (M-1044): This project improves the landscape entering Stanford on Palm Drive.

Kingscote Path (M-1134): This project provides pedestrian access between the Faculty Club and Kingscote apartments to support recent changes in the area and future needs.

El Camino Real Sidewalk—PAMF to Palm Drive (M-1050): This project establishes connectivity between the Stanford pathway system and the El Camino Real mid-block crosswalk at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation traffic signal.
