Brown's research is among most cited

Patrick O. Brown, PhD, professor of biochemistry, is among the most cited researcher in biomedicine over the last decade. With 12,754 citations between 1995-2005, he ranks second only to John Reed, MD, PhD, president and CEO of the Burnham Institute in La Jolla, Calif.

The citation data appears in the January/February issue of Science Watch, the bimonthly newsletter published by Thomson Scientific.

Brown's work developing microarray technology earned him the extensive citations. Microarrays are widely used to find out which genes are active in certain cells or tissues. That information can guide cancer researchers in developing therapies targeting proteins made from genes that are only active in cancerous cells.
