Dartmouth expert gives Feb. 17 Merigan lecture
Challenges in academic medicine will be the topic for the 11th annual Thomas C. Merigan Jr. Lecture to be delivered by John E. Wennberg, MD, MPH from Dartmouth Medical School.
Wennberg, who is director of the Center for Evaluative Clinical Sciences, studies how effectively health-care providers manage patients with chronic disease. He recently showed that health-care providers differ greatly in the cost of care they provide, despite a lack of evidence that higher-priced care produces better results.
The lecture is hosted by the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine and will take place Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. in the Clark Center auditorium.
Following his talk, Wennberg will honor Halstead R. Holman, MD, the Bethold and Belle N. Gugenheim Professor of Medicine, Emeritus. The two will discuss teaching the science of chronic disease care.
