Nominations for Dinkelspiel, Cuthbertson, Gores sought

Nominations are now open for this year's Gores, Dinkelspiel and Cuthbertson awards. Recipients of these awards are honored for high achievements in teaching, advising, professional activities and other services to the university. Faculty, staff and students are eligible as noted on the website of the Office of the Registrar.

The Walter J. Gores Award is the university's highest award for teaching. It recognizes undergraduate and graduate teaching excellence in regard to educational activities such as lecturing, tutoring, advising and discussion leading. Every year, the honor goes to one senior faculty member (associate or full professor or senior lecturer), one junior faculty member and one teaching assistant.

The Lloyd W. Dinkelspiel Award recognizes distinctive and exceptional contributions to undergraduate education. The award is given to two graduating seniors, a faculty or staff member with 10 or more years of service and an employee with less than 10 years of service.

The Kenneth M. Cuthbertson Award recognizes exceptional contributions toward the achievement of the university's overall goals. Ordinarily, one award is given annually to either a staff or faculty member for contributions of all types—including administrative, professional or educational.

Even one letter on behalf of a candidate can make a difference, according to the Subcommittee on University Honors. Go to the website of the Office of the Registrar, http://registrar.stanford.edu/awards/, for complete criteria for the awards and to see the list of previous award winners. The announcement on the website can be printed and posted in departments, offices and residence halls.

Employees are encouraged to nominate anyone they feel deserves the recognition, especially students eligible for the Dinkelspiel Awards. Letters outlining their contributions should be sent to the Subcommittee on University Honors, Office of the Registrar, 630 Serra St., Suite 120, mail code 6032. E-mail nominations are encouraged and should be sent to lindi.press@stanford.edu. The subcommittee will accept nominations for this year's awards until April 7.
