Bruce Buckingham, MD, has been promoted to professor of pediatrics (endocrinology) at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital as of Jan. 1. He studies diabetes as well as Turner syndrome, hypoparathyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia.

Daniel Kim, MD, has been promoted to professor of neurosurgery as of Jan. 1. His research involves detailed analyses of craniocervical and spinal anatomical relationships and the development of novel instrumentation for stabilization of the spine. He is also director of spinal neurosurgery/reconstructive peripheral surgery.

R. James Koch, MD, has been promoted to associate professor of otolaryngology, as of Jan. 1. His research interests include tissue engineering of human septal cartilage for facial reconstruction and wound-healing enhancement by autocrine growth factor production. Koch also directs the Wound Healing & Tissue Engineering Laboratory.

Medical students Achal Achrol, Gabriel Brat, Dora Castaneda and yashar Kalani have been awarded the 2007 Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans. The award recognizes the extraordinary academic achievements of immigrants or children of immigrants.
