National Geographic Channel to air Sky Monsters documentary on prehistoric pterosaurs

Margot Gerritsen, assistant professor of petroleum engineering, is featured prominently in a two-hour documentary, Sky Monsters, scheduled to air at 5 p.m. Feb. 1 on the National Geographic Channel. Between 200 million to 65 million years ago, pterosaurs, or flying reptiles, populated the Earth and dominated the sky. The documentary follows the work of the Stanford-National Geographic Pterosaur Replica Project and its efforts to build a realistic, flyable replica based on fossils. Stanford project members Steve Collie and Axel Strang also appear in the film, which will be broadcast again at 9 p.m. Feb. 27.
