Jan. 8 deadline for Coulter research grants

Proposals are now being accepted for four $100,000 projects funded by the Coulter Translational Research grants program. The deadline for the five-page application is Jan. 8.

The grants will go toward collaborative translational research projects that involve co-investigators from the Department of Bioengineering and a clinical department in the School of Medicine. Successful proposals should address unmet clinical needs and lead to improvements in health care and commercial products. The projects could include new inventions, patents, improved diagnosis and treatment of disease and start-up companies.

Evaluation of each proposal will be on the basis of scientific merit, potential health-care impact and significance, experience of the investigators and the potential for commercialization and for successfully obtaining further support.

Applicants should discuss their proposals with Paul Yock (yock@stanford.edu) or Scott Delp (delp@stanford.edu) before submission. Final proposals should be sent to sandy.miller@stanford.edu.

An advisory committee will review the proposals and select finalists for a brief presentation in late February. Applicants will be notified by early March for funding to begin April 1, 2007.
