Faculty or staff who have compelling experiences related to civil rights or injustice are invited to share their stories with dorm communities on Jan. 29 and 30 as part of a project of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee. The group is offering to fly family friends and relatives of students to Stanford for free who can share stories about their participation in the civil rights movement, witnessing injustice and regretting doing nothing about it, or where they were and what they were doing when King was assassinated. Faculty and staff are invited to speak as well. To participate in the Living History Project, contact JOSH SCHILLER at hbunny@stanford.edu.

This Saturday, the Palo Alto-based public service organization Magic plans to plant 75 more oak trees on the Dish hill from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Magic demonstrates how people use science to more accurately discern and more fully realize value. The nonprofit has worked with Stanford since 1979 to regenerate native California oaks on university land through a program called "Planting for the Second Hundred Years," which has attracted more than 10,000 volunteers so far. To sign up, call ROBIN BAYER at 323-7333 or send e-mail to oaks@ecomagic.org.
By the way, any staffers looking for a good caterer, florist, notary public or other common office-related service might try the Stanford Administrators Vendor Exchange (SAVE), a "knowledge base" that draws on the vast experience of administrators over the years regarding vendors of goods and services. Go to https://www.stanford.edu/group/save/. A SUNet ID and password are required.
