Cohen named to new endowed post

Harvey Cohen, MD, PhD, the Arline and Peter Harman Professor and chair of pediatrics at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, has been named the hospital's first Adalyn Jay Chief of Staff. The endowed position, which is a rarity among children's hospitals, provides funds to support the chief of staff's salary and for discretionary use.

"The chief of staff endowment gives the hospital and the individual in this position the almost unique opportunity of having financial support for the lead physician as well as the resources to develop innovative clinical programs," said Cohen.

The gift was from the Adalyn Jay Family Foundation and was inspired by the care the donors' granddaughter has received at LPCH.

Cohen has held faculty posts at Harvard Medical School and at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, where he was James P. Wilmot Associate Professor of Pediatric Oncology and associate chair for research and development in the Department of Pediatrics. In 1993, he became chair of the Stanford pediatrics department, and was named the first Arline and Peter Harman Professor and chair of pediatrics at the hospital in 2000.
