Honors and Awards
OZGUR SAHIN, doctoral student in electrical engineering, is the grand prize winner of this year's Collegiate Inventor's Competition. One of nine graduate finalists, he is recognized for his work in improving the atomic force microscope. Sponsored by the National Inventor's Hall of Fame, the competition was held Oct. 1-2 in Akron, Ohio.
RICHARD N. ZARE, the Marguerite Blake Wilbur Professor in Natural Science, was elected a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in September. He was also named recipient of two regional awards from the American Chemical Society: the William H. Nichols Medal for encouraging original research in chemistry and the James Flack Norris Award for outstanding achievement in the teaching of chemistry.
