Stanford Center on Ethics presents 'Who's to Blame? Prisoners of War and Personal Responsibility'
At 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, the Stanford Center on Ethics will host a panel focusing on recent abuses of Iraqi inmates at Abu Ghraib prison by U.S. soldiers and the broader implications concerning the rights of the accused and the legal, professional and ethical responsibilities of accusers.
"Who's to Blame? Prisoners of War and Personal Responsibility" is scheduled to take place in Room 290 of the Law School. Law Professor Deborah Rhode, director of the Center on Ethics, will moderate the event, which is free and open to the public. Panel participants will include:
Jenny Martinez, assistant professor of law and a member of the legal team arguing for Jose Padilla's right to counsel. Padilla, the alleged "dirty bomber," has spent two years in military custody.
Geoff Mohan, staff writer for the Los Angeles Times, who was an embedded journalist in Iraq.
Helen Stacey, a senior research scholar at the Center on Democracy, Development and the Rule of Law within the Stanford Institute for International Studies. Stacey is working on a project that examines human rights in the context of globalization.
