Rosan Gomperts, who has worked as a counselor at the Help Center for eight years, has been named director, effective May 17. She succeeds David Rasch, who left the position to become university ombudsperson on May 1.

Gomperts, 42, a licensed clinical social worker, earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of California-Berkeley in 1984 and a Master of Social Work degree from San Francisco State University in 1994. She was an intern at Counseling and Psychological Services at the student health center before joining the Help Center staff. She previously worked as the director of the Health and Fitness Center at the Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto.

"Rosan is a wonderful choice for the role. In addition to her excellent counseling skills, Rosan is a natural leader and well respected by the staff. She also brings a lot of positive energy, optimism and fun to her work," Rasch said.

The Help Center provides confidential, brief counseling to the faculty and staff of Stanford University, Stanford Hospital, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Menlo Medical Clinic and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Spouses, domestic partners and children under 21 also are eligible for services.
