A GOING-AWAY "FANFEST" FOR ANDY COE, whose last day as community relations director was May 14, was packed with Coe's friends and colleagues and brimming with sports references. His former boss, LARRY HORTON, director of government and community relations, wore a striped referee shirt and a whistle around his neck. Party favors were Andy Coe trading cards, complete with stats. As football captain at Yale University in the late 1960s, Coe was named the player who "did the most for Yale in character, academics and concern for others." Members of his Stanford team also praised Coe's integrity and people skills -- Horton paraphrased Will Rogers, saying, "I never met a man who didn't like Andy Coe." Coe bid farewell with the same words he uses to say goodbye to the Little League teams he's coached: "Whatever you do in the future, I want you to do your best and have fun."

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR THE Multicultural Springfest, a staff appreciation picnic and arts and entertainment festival to be held Thursday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Ford Center Plaza. Organizers have planned a Mediterranean feast to be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. -- moussaka, paella, pizettas and Greek pasta and fruit salad -- along with sausages, hot dogs and ice cream. (Vegetarian and "grab and go" options will be available.) An eclectic lineup of entertainment will include the rock group The Heretics, whose members are from the Physics and Biochemistry departments; Los Bilbilikos Cativos, who will sing Sephardic folk tunes; and the Stanford Soul Line Dancers. To volunteer or for more information, go to www.stanford.edu/dept/ocr/diversityaccess/index.html.

TOMORROW IS BIKE TO WORK DAY, AND bicycling commuters can stop at any of six "energizer" stations on campus and at nearby train and bus stations from 6:30 to 9 a.m. for snacks, giveaways and lots of encouragement. Stations will be set up at White Plaza, the intersection of El Camino Real and Galvez Street, the intersection of Campus Drive West and Santa Teresa Street, SLAC, and the Palo Alto and California Avenue Caltrain stations. RIDES for Bay Area Commuters is also sponsoring a contest for Bike to Work Day; prizes include a new bicycle, handheld computers and, the grand prize, a trip to Hawaii. To register online for prizes, go to www.511.org/btwd/stations.html. For more information, contact CAROLYN HELMKE, bicycle program coordinator at chelmke@stanford.edu.
