Loss of trees only temporary on Sand Hill Road
The disappearance of trees along Sand Hill Road between Santa Cruz Avenue and the San Francisquito Creek bridge during road construction is only temporary, officials say. The Sand Hill Road project, which will widen Sand Hill Road and make other improvements, includes a landscaping plan to restore the canopy of trees along the roadside, said Jean McCown, director of community relations.
A number of healthy native trees that can be relocated will be dug up, boxed and then replanted at the site once construction on that part of the project is completed later this year, she said. A drawing of the landscaping plan can be viewed online at www.sandhillroadproject.net under the July 2004 link in "Construction News."
The website lists traffic advisories, a construction schedule and other information about the project.
