Memorial services set for Robert Buss, former professor
Memorial services have been set for Robert Buss, an associate professor of electrical engineering at Stanford from 1951 to 1967, who died July 5 in his Los Altos Hills home. He was 91.
The memorial will be held Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Palo Alto.
Born in Provo, Utah, on March 14, 1913, Buss moved to Palo Alto at age 10. He earned his doctorate in electrical engineering at Stanford, where he met his future wife.
During World War II, Buss worked in counter-radar at Harvard, and then served as a civilian technical observer in Italy. After the war, he taught at Northwestern before returning to the Bay Area, where he taught and conducted research at Stanford until 1967. He subsequently worked for several electronics companies before retiring at 75.
He is survived by his wife, Eugenia Halsey Buss; children Katherine Buss of Berkeley, Jennifer Barron of Weston, Conn., Richard Buss of Jackson, Calif., Stephen Buss of Palo Alto and Laura Van Hook of Rocklin, Calif.; sister Helen Halsey of Jersey Island, Calif., and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Finney.
