Veteran radiology staff member dies

Christine Wood, age 77, died July 26 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the wife of Peter Wood, DSc, emeritus professor of medicine, and a longtime School of Medicine staff member.
She began working at the medical school in 1969 in the Department of Radiology when Henry S. Kaplan, MD, was chair. She subsequently worked as an administrative associate in the Department of Radiation Oncology from the time it was established. Wood retired in 1990.
She was born in London and lived there during the aerial attacks of World War II. She met Dr. Wood in Switzerland in 1950 and they married in 1953. Their daughter Loretta was born in 1956. The family lived in Australia and Canada and settled in California in 1962.
She was interested in opera and travel. She was a member of the Great War Society, which studies all aspects of the war and its relevance to the 21st century.
Wood was a member of the Fifty-Plus Fitness Association and an accomplished runner. She ran in International Masters Competition at the World Masters Games in 1994 in Australia and the World Amateur Veterans Championship in 1995 in Buffalo, N.Y.
