By JOYCE THOMAS Arthur Riesenfeld, MD, medical school class of 1955, died Aug. 2, from complications of pulmonary edema. He was 74. "I remember Art as an agreeable and serious student," said classmate Joseph Abrahamson, MD, recalling medical school days at Stanford. "We interacted at reunions and later e-mail exchanges occurred regularly. He loved Stanford and frequently commented on how much he owed the school. All of us mourn the loss," said Abrahamson. Riesenfeld was president-elect of Stanford Medical Alumni Association last year and became president for 2003-2004 this spring. He served on the SMAA board of governors from 1996 through 2002 and for many years as class representative. He regularly attended the annual spring Continuing Medical Education symposium as well as SMAA on-the-road events. A longtime resident of Pasadena, Calif., Riesenfeld was an internist/endocrinologist who had served for 43 years on the staff of White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles until his retirement in 2001. Riesenfeld then received an appointment as affiliate and continued service with the Department of Medicine and the credentials committee. Riesenfeld was also an accomplished cellist and music lover. Riesenfeld was born in 1929 in Berlin, the son of physicians. The family fled Nazi Germany and settled in the Los Angeles area, where he grew up. Riesenfeld’s wife, Virginia, died in 1984.
