Marsh O’Neill Award nominations sought

The Office of the Dean of Research and Graduate Policy is accepting nominations for the 2003 Marsh O'Neill Award, given each year to a staff member who has made "an exceptional and enduring contribution to Stanford's research enterprise."

All staff members, including academic staff, are eligible for the award, which is accompanied by a $3,000 cash prize. Nominations are accepted only from faculty members. The deadline for receipt of nominations is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Nominations may be as simple as a memo or an e-mail and should include the nominee's name, job title and department; specific examples of extraordinary contributions or service above and beyond the call of duty; and the name of the faculty nominator.

The winner of the award will be selected by a faculty committee according to the following criteria: widely acknowledged service to a broad community of researchers; enduring and ongoing contributions to the university; innovative approaches to getting the job done; professionalism in the position; and breadth of faculty support. All nominees will receive a letter advising them that they were nominated.

Further information about the award, including an online nomination form, can be found on the web at www.stanford.edu/dept/DoR/Marsh.

Nominations also can be sent to Kathy Eslinger at the Office of the Dean of Research and Graduate Policy, Building 10, Main Quad, mail code 2061, or to kathye@stanford.edu.

Marsh O'Neill, the first recipient of the award, retired in 1990 as the associate director of the W. W. Hansen Laboratories. Last year's award winner was Erika Wayne, a reference and Internet services librarian at the Robert Crown Law Library.
