Alzheimer’s study. Participants are needed for a Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences research study investigating the effectiveness of mifepristone in men or women with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. The six-month study includes the study drug, related tests and weekly clinic visits at no cost. Reimbursement for transportation is available. Volunteers age 30 to 65 and not on blood pressure or cholesterol-lowering medications are needed for a Stanford Center for Research in Disease Prevention study on the effects of garlic consumption on cholesterol levels. Participants will receive free cholesterol screenings and individual results as well as gourmet sandwiches with or without garlic. The Stanford-Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital vaccine program seeks healthy boys and girls age 3 to 9 for a study of flu vaccine to determine how children’s immune systems respond to vaccination. Eligible participants must have received the flu vaccine last year. Lab tests, physical exam and vaccination are included at no cost. Compensation is provided for each scheduled visit. Women age 18 to 39 with polycystic ovary syndrome and a desire to become pregnant are needed for a study of two medications that may help women with the disorder become pregnant. Eligible participants will take study medications daily, have blood tests weekly, visit the clinic monthly and actively try to become pregnant. Study medications (Metformin XR and/or Clomiphene citrate), tests and ultrasound examination are included at no cost.
