The Stanford Medical Center auxiliary needs volunteers to work in the reception areas of the intensive care units, the emergency department, patient escort service, gift shop, surgery reception and the auxiliary office. Openings for adults are available days, evenings and weekends. A weekly commitment of up to four hours can make a difference. For information, please call 723-6636.

PAWS program. Pet owners with friendly dogs, cats or rabbits and an interest in possible participation in the Pet-Assisted Wellness@Stanford program are invited to contact the Peninsula Humane Society for information about the Delta Society pet partner certification workshop to be held Aug. 17 in San Mateo. For details and to register, please contact Malu Trehan at 340-7022 (ext. 344) or mtrehan@peninsulahumanesociety.org before July 31.

Certification by the Delta Society is required before volunteering a companion pet for the PAWS program at Stanford Hospital. Once a pet is certified, pet owners may contact Francie Souza in the Stanford Hospital Office of Community & Patient Relations at 723-7167 for information about the pet visitation program and volunteer guidelines.
