The maximum yearly reimbursable expenses allowed in the Staff Training Assistance Program (STAP) will be reduced to $800 from $1,200, effective Sept. 1. STAP funds can be used for supervisor-approved tuition costs, registration fees and required books for training related to an employee's job or for career development. The maximum benefits ceiling for STAP funds was raised from $800 per year to $1,200 per year in 2001. More than 5,000 staff members used STAP funds this year, said Bob Colmenares, manager for Training and Organizational Development in Human Resources. No changes in benefit amounts will be made to the Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program (STRP), which reimburses eligible staff for tuition for courses taken in undergraduate and graduate degree programs up to a maximum of $5,250 per academic year, or the Tuition Grant Program, which pays college tuition up to 50 percent of the amount of Stanford tuition for children of eligible employees, Colmenares said.
