Educational benefits increase; include part-time staff

Educational benefits for full and part-time staff are scheduled to increase substantially, beginning this fall. And for the first time, part-time employees will be eligible for the Tuition Grant Program for dependent children, on a prorated basis.

Changes to educational benefits include:

  • The Tuition Grant Program (TGP) will offer eligible employees up to 50 percent of the cost of Stanford tuition for dependent children, effective this academic year. Part-time benefit (new): During the 2001-2002 academic year, TGP will provide a 75 percent benefit for employees working from 50 to 99 percent with five years of benefits-eligible service.

  • Maximum benefits under the Staff Tuition Assistance Program (STAP) are increasing from $800 to $1,200 a year, effective Sept. 1.

  • Maximum benefits under the Staff Tuition Reimbursement Program (STRP) for employees enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programs are increasing from $2,000 to $5,250 effective Sept. 1. Graduate tuition reimbursements will be tax-free, effective Jan. 1, 2002. Undergraduate reimbursements currently are tax-free.
