Author and map collector Glen
McLaughlin will give an illustrated talk, "When California Was an
Island," at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 23, in Building 320, Room
105. McLaughlin will discuss how early European explorers and
cartographers mapped California as an island, even after a Jesuit
priest had walked from Mexico to California on dry land. The
lecture is sponsored by the Associates of the Stanford University
Libraries and is free and open to the public. For more information,
contact Sally Treadway at 723-9426. SR
