Laurence Baker is Chief of Health Services Research and a Professor of Health Research and Policy at Stanford.  He is an economist interested in the organization and economic performance of the U.S. health care system.  His research and academic interests include: the strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. health care system; U.S. health reform; the economics of health care technology adoption and use; and the changing organization of physician practices and hospitals, and how this affects costs and outcomes. He interests also include: changes in health insurance, and the design of health insurance plans; and the Medicare and Medicaid programs, their structure and operation, and economic issues related to their performance.
