Ticket lottery for ‘Rathbun Lecture on a Meaningful Life’ with Ruth Bader Ginsburg to open at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23

The ticket lottery for this year’s “Rathbun Lecture on a Meaningful Life” featuring Ruth Bader Ginsburg will open at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, and will close at 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29. The lottery is open to faculty, staff and students with a current SUNet ID.

Ginsburg, an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, will offer her personal reflections on life during the event at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in Stanford Memorial Church.

The lecture honors the late Stanford Law School Professor Harry Rathbun, who delivered his renowned “Last Lecture” annually from the 1930s through the 1950s.

Lottery details

A Stanford SUNet ID will be required to enter the lottery via the Stanford Ticket Office website. Only one lottery entry per faculty, staff or student will be allowed. There will be a limit of one ticket per lottery winner.

Lottery winners will be notified by email on Jan. 31. They will then have to pick up their ticket in person and present their Stanford ID card at the Stanford Ticket Office, second floor, Tresidder Memorial Union, between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, or Friday, Feb. 3. Tickets not picked up by 7 p.m. Feb. 3 will be forfeited.

Event details

On the day of the event, the doors to Memorial Church will open at 6 p.m. Ticketholders will be required to present their Stanford ID at the door. Seating is general admission. Seats will be held for ticketholders until 6:50 p.m. and may be released thereafter.

  • This non-transferable ticket is complimentary and not for sale or re-sale.
  • No cameras, flash photography or recording devices will be permitted.
  • Attendees will be asked to turn off all cell phones, pagers and alarms.
  • This event will be webcast live.
  • Entry and re-entry will be at the discretion of event management.
  • Food and drinks are prohibited in Memorial Church.
  • Use of this ticket to gain entry shall be deemed consenting to the above and any other conditions set by Stanford University at its events.
