Stanford’s Technology Training Festival 2016 begins next week

Instructors are eager to share tips, tricks and best practices – and to answer questions – at the annual Technology Training Festival.

Stanford faculty, staff and students who would like to master new software programs, prepare for their next job opportunity or use remaining STAP funds before the end of the fiscal year are invited to participate in this summer’s Technology Training Festival, which will offer classes July 12-22 and August 15-19.

“The intent of the Technology Training Festival is to offer low-cost training options that appeal to a variety of interests and skill levels,” says Liz Goesseringer, manager of Technology Training at Stanford. “It is a great way to fine-tune skills or learn some new ones before the start of the new academic year.”

Although the training sessions are lecture-based, participants are encouraged to bring their devices (laptops or tablets) to make the training more immersive and hands-on.

This year’s festival offers a deeper look into document management at Stanford and Adobe’s Creative Suite, with new classes on Illustrator and InDesign. In addition, there is a new class titled Demystify Video Editing on the Mac.

Stanford is offering classes in July and in August to allow participants a chance to take classes before the inevitable rush at the end of the fiscal year.

The people teaching the classes are all experts in their fields, with an emphasis on training for Stanford. Most of the instructors are vendors that teach hands-on classes with Tech Training. Stanford’s training staff will teach Document Management Tools: Google Drive, OneDrive and Box and iPhone and iPad Apps to Improve Productivity.

The July session features 15 classes, including WordPress for Novices, Document Management Tools: Google Drive, OneDrive and Box and Adobe Creative Suite – Harnessing Your Creative Potential.

The July session also will include classes on Excel, Word and OneNote, and Git and GitHub, as well as classes on social media and business applications, beginning programming, and iPhone and iPad productivity apps.

The July classes will be held in Room G19 of Redwood Hall, located at 243 Panama Street in the middle of Jordan Quad. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 4 p.m.

The August session features 10 classes, including Demystify Video Editing on the Mac, InDesign: Creating Efficient Layouts and Be Agile: Introduction to SCRUM.

In addition, the August session includes classes on PowerPoint, Excel and Drupal.

The August classes will be held in Turing Auditorium (Room 111) in Polya Hall, located at 255 Panama Street on the west side of Jordan Quad. Classes will be held form 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 4 p.m.

Registration is $150 for each class. The classes are open to faculty, staff and students who have a valid SUNet ID. For regular university employees working 50 percent time or more, it’s a great way to use remaining Staff Training Assistance Program (STAP) funds before August 31, the end of the fiscal year.
